BCS Organisational Behaviour
This 3-day BCS Organisational Behaviour course provides an entry level qualification for anyone wishing to gain an understanding of the complex factors which shape the way organisations operate.
This course was previously named ‘Commercial Awareness’.
Course summary
This 3-day course provides an entry level qualification for anyone wishing to gain an understanding of the complex factors which shape the way organisations operate. It includes the principles of organisational design and operating models, as well as group and individual performance, culture and behaviour. It also introduces basic financial reporting concepts including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow forecasting and investment appraisal.
Delivery Method
Classroom and virtual.
Our virtual classroom training courses are delivered via Zoom. Online BCS exams will also require use of Zoom and installation of exam software on the delegate’s laptop or desktop PC.

Our course tutors for both classroom and virtual courses are practising business change professionals with at least 5 years training delivery experience.

The Foundation Certificate is for people who want to gain a general understanding of the structure, operation and behaviour of organisations, including business and project finance.
Suitable for business analysts, business managers and anyone working in business change.
This course is also suitable for those at any level who want to obtain the BCS certificate in Organisational Behaviour, a practitioner specialism for the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis.

Learning Outcomes

- Principles of financial reporting including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, costing and pricing.
- Project finance including costs and benefits, payback, discounted cash flow and internal rate of return.

The course covers the BCS Syllabus for Organisational Behaviour which is divided into the following six areas:
- Organisational Principles (17.5%)
- Operating models (15%)
- Organisational motivation, behaviour and culture (20%)
- Group formation (10%)
- Principles of financial reporting (20%)
- Project finance (17.5%)

Course preparation
The syllabus for this course and exam is based on several publications but we do not recommend purchasing all of them. We will provide additional references when you make a booking.
Those who already have the BCS publication ‘Business Analysis, Third Edition’ will be advised to read one of the chapters.
Additional course information
Courses take place 09:00 – 16:30 for the first two days with a finishing time of around 3 pm on the final day following the sitting of the exam.
BCS Examination and Accreditation Details
The BCS Organisational Behaviour exam is taken on the final afternoon of the course.
To support preparation for taking the exam we provide delegates with one sample exam paper during the course. We are currently working on additional sample questions but these may not be available for the next course delivery.
The exam fee is included in the costs shown above. The format of the examination is a one-hour closed-book multiple-choice examination consisting of 40 questions. Candidates need to achieve a minimum of 26 marks out of 40 to pass the examination.
A basic calculator may be used during the exam (not a mobile phone).
Part of the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis
The BCS Certificate in Organisational Behaviour is a knowledge-based specialism module required to complete the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis. To obtain the full Diploma candidates must also obtain the two core modules and a practitioner specialism module. Candidates must also take a one-hour oral exam directly with the BCS – The Chartered Institute for IT, following successful completion of the four modules.
