This course covers the syllabus and exam for the BCS (British Computer Society) Practitioner Certificate in Modelling Business Processes.

Course summary

This BCS certified business analysis course is relevant to anyone requiring an understanding of business process modelling and focuses on the investigation, modelling, analysis and improvement of business processes. The course covers high-level organisational modelling, task modelling using swim-lanes and the detailed definition of individual tasks.

Our version of this course is delivered with BPMN v2 (Business Process Model and Notation) used as the base modelling technique. BPMN is an evolving industry standard for process modelling.

Delivery Method

Classroom and virtual.

Our virtual business analysis training courses are delivered via Zoom. Online BCS exams will also require use of Zoom and installation of exam software on the delegate’s laptop or desktop PC.

Our course tutors for both classroom and virtual courses are practising business change professionals with at least 5 years training delivery experience.

Suitable for

This course is suitable for those with little or no experience of process modelling, or for those with some modelling experience who wish to acquire a more in-depth understanding of BPMN.

This course is also suitable for those at any level who want to obtain the BCS Certificate in Modelling Business Processes, a practitioner specialism for the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis.

  2. Modelling at the Enterprise Level (15%)
  3. Modelling at the Event-Response Level (30%)
  4. Modelling at the Actor-Task Level (15%)
  5. Improving Business Processes (20%)
  6. Managing and Implementing Change (5%)

Course preparation

The syllabus for the BCS Modelling Business Processes course and exam is based mainly on one chapter from the BCS publication ‘Business Analysis, Fourth Edition’. It is strongly recommended that delegates purchase and read the relevant chapter before attending the course. This will greatly increase their chances of passing the exam.

The BCS reading text is not included in the course fee and delegates should obtain their own copy in order to complete the pre-reading.

Additional course information

Courses take place from 9:30 am until 4:15 pm with 40 minutes for lunch. The BCS Practitioner Certificate in Modelling Business Processes exam will be taken online via the remote proctoring service allowing attendees to book an exam at a date and time suitable for them. We generally recommend taking the exam on the same day or soon after.

BCS Examination and Accreditation Details

The BCS Modelling Business Processes exam is taken after completion of the course.

To support preparation for taking the exam we provide delegates with two sample exam papers during the course and a further set of sample exam questions that they can attempt as homework.

The exam fee is included in the costs shown above. The format of the examination is a one-hour closed-book multiple-choice examination consisting of 40 questions. Candidates need to achieve a minimum of 26 marks out of 40 to pass the examination.

Part of the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis

The BCS Certificate in Modelling Business Processes is a practitioner specialism module required to complete the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis. To obtain the full Diploma candidates must also obtain the two core modules and a knowledge-based specialism module. Candidates must also take a one-hour oral exam directly with the BCS – The Chartered Institute for IT, following successful completion of the four modules.
