This course covers the syllabus and exam for the BCS certificate in Modelling Business Processes, a Practitioner specialism module for the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis.
This certificate is concerned with the investigation, modelling and improvement of business processes. Business processes are defined as 'the means by which an organisation carried out its internal operations and delivers its products and services to its customers'. Candidates are required to appreciate the hierarchy for business processes, and apply business process modelling techniques within a framework for business process improvement.
The course is delivered with BPMN (Business Process Modelling Notation) being used as the base technique.
This course is suitable for those who want to obtain the BCS certificate in Modelling Business Processes and learn about the investigation, modelling and improvement of business processes.
By the end of the course attendees will be able to:
Identify and model core business processes at an organisational level

- Identify the events that trigger the business processes
- Identify the outcomes from the business processes
- Model the actors, tasks and process flows that comprise a business process

We provide a pre-reading document for this course. Delegates should plan to spend around four hours prior to the course completing this pre-reading.
The BCS exam in Modelling Business Processes is taken on the afternoon of the last day of classroom courses, or for self-study at an exam only session. The format for the examination is a one hour written open book examination based on a business scenario with 15 minutes reading time. The exam fee is included in the costs shown above.
Candidates must achieve 50% to be awarded a pass grade. Candidates who are awarded a pass for the examination are awarded the BCS Certificate in Modelling Business Processes.
Classroom Course Information
The course has a mix of theoretical information and practical application. Delegates are encouraged to learn through group and individual exercises including a case study, as well as exam-based exercises. The BCS exam in Modelling Business Processes is taken on the last afternoon of the course.
The duration of this course is two days. Courses run daily from 9.00 am until 5.30 pm. Homework will be given to delegates on day one of the course
Tea, coffee and cold drinks are available throughout the course, however delegates should make their own lunch arrangements. Courses are non-residential, however we can provide a list of recommended hotels close to the venue for those wanting to arrange accommodation.
Part of the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis
Modelling Business Processes is a Practitioner specialism module for those wanting to achieve the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis. To obtain the full Diploma candidates must also gain the core modules of Requirements Engineering and Business Analysis Practice and a Knowledge-based specialism module. Candidates must also take a one hour oral exam directly with the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT following successful completion of the four modular certificates.
